Americans witnessing the unspeakable and horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook which is now among the worst school shootings on Friday hit so close to home for parents with younger children.  Most of you like me probably went home and hugged your kids a little tighter.  Suddenly your daughter spilling Kool-Aide on the carpet doesn’t seem as serious today.  Unfortunately there are many families who won’t get the opportunity for that hug and their holidays will be spent mourning over this senseless act of violence.  There are kids who are survivors who will have to live with this traumatic experience for the rest of their life.

This is yet another example that our kids are growing up in a different world.  Nobody can pinpoint how to identify the next individual who decides to suddenly go on a rampage of murder.  From the Columbine killers to the Colorado movie killer they each have displayed various personality profiles.  There are some who are mentally ill and other times there are simply just spiritual forces that are unseen to the human eye that are pure evil and demonic.

All each of us can do now is to pray.  We must pray first for those affected by the tragedy in Connecticut.  We also need to pray that soon we can look at ourselves as a country and start having some serious conversations about how to adjust in this new world just like we did post 911 without the fear of offending some who feel we should continue with the status quo.  Unfortunately we can never totally eradicate these senseless acts of violence.  Gun violence is in our culture and we live in a fallen world that needs redemption.

While we mourn as a nation my hope is for God to sustain the Newton ,Connecticut community who must  continue to go forward with life.  My prayer to each of you with kids is to cherish and never take for granted each day God grants us with our loved ones.
